Adorable, Easy, and kid-friendly DIY 4th of July Star Shirts

Adorable, Easy, and kid-friendly DIY 4th of July Star Shirts

So a little late but better than never! It’s been a while since I’ve posted, but you know how it is.. life!

This past 4th of July was a riot and marathon of a long weekend. Our family usually spends the holiday together, hanging out at my parents house or at my father’s boat on the lake, generally letting all the grandkids run wild like animals until they fall asleep where they stand some time well after their bed time. It is my opinion that this is the best way for little kids to spend long, hot summer days! We set up a “redneck water park” by filling a few inflatable pools, a slip n slide, and hundreds and hundreds of water balloons!

I had alerted my sisters that I wanted to take some photos of all the grandkids during this weekend because we didn’t have any recent, decent photos of not only all of them together, but the individual kids. So, I also wanted something cute for Drew and Owen, the other boy in the set of cousins to wear for the photos since the girlies always have cute matching outfits.

So, I did what anyone does these days… I took to Pinterest! I found a photo of a cute shirt with stars and new my little one would love to help make it. I set out to pick up the supplies I needed the tI didn’t have. They are pretty cheap and not only easy to get but you most likely have many of them already! If you are looking for an adorable easy and kid-friendly DIY 4th of July Star Shirt, look no further.

You’ll need:

– Freezer Paper

– A small spray bottle

– Paint

– A T-shirt

– An Iron

– Cut outs of stars (or whatever shapes you’d like)

First you will need to print out the shapes for a stencil for the freezer paper.

Once you have your stencils and you’ve cut out the freezer paper, you’ll need to take a warm iron and iron the freezer paper to the shirt in the pattern you’d like. Make sure you put some newspaper inside the shirt to make sure the stars don’t stick to the back and to make sure the paint doesn’t soak through.

While you are waiting for the stars to set from ironing, mix your paint. Take about a quarter of the spray bottle and fill it with paint, then mix it with a bit of water so it is nice and thin and you are able to easily spray it out of the bottle. Then there is nothing left to do but put some newspaper down and let your little one go to town! The best part is it is nearly impossible for even the tiniest of hands (or most destructive of toddlers!) to mess up!

Then all you need to do is simply peel of the stars and there you have it! The cutest, easiest and most fun you can have and you end up with a cute shirt for the little one to wear for the 4th of July holiday!

And the kids turned out as cute as buttons! Of course… there is always the toddler factor. Like when your son, who was SO EXCITED to wear the shirt he made and then when the day comes throwing a HUGE fit and not want to wear it. That’s life with a toddler amiright?! At least one cutie wanted to wear it and since then the little one has wanted to wear it all the time. Go figure!

Grumpy pants…

But they are kinda cute and we got some good photos of them all. 😉

Glam Purple Wedding: Matt & Deane’s Chic Wedding

Glam weddings will always be in style.  And with purple as the color scheme, this one was royal! It is undeniable that Denae has impeccible taste. The first time I met with Matt, a good friend I met through another good friend, and his beautiful bride-to-be Denae, I was excited about their wedding. The details of their big day were swoon-worthy.  They had chosen a deep purple and lavender color scheme and from the description of the flowers she chose for her arrangements to the adorable chapel they chose for the ceremony, I couldn’t wait to photograph it!

Adorable Family Photo Shoot: Family Photography

I have grown to love family photography and it is quickly becoming my favorite type of photo shoot.  Kevin turned 2 a few weekends ago. His mother hired me to take some photos to commemorate the day. She, her husband and their family had a small get together in their backyard. Living in a traditional Chicago neighborhood and in a much beloved Chicago bungalow, they have a quaint backyard with some beautiful ivy growing on their neighbor’s garage that served as the perfect backdrop for some adorable family photos.

I was blown away not only with how cute this little guy was, but by how smart he was! He knew all the names of the planets and could name all the colors. That is super impressive for a toddler just turning two. And about those balloons… Kevin didn’t want to put them down! He was super excited to be playing with them, but his favorite thing was to let them go! He would get SO excited to see them floating off, much to the dismay of his mother and father I might add, but isn’t that the job of a toddler?!

And with these photos done, it is time to download and start in on the wedding of Matt & Denae that took place this past weekend over the Memorial Day weekend. I can’t WAIT to see them!

Engagement Photos: Matt & Denae

I had the honor and privilege to shoot some engagement photos for a friend, Matt, and his lovely bide-to-be, Denae. We had planned on shooting at the park across the street from where they were going to be getting married but it was super windy and a little chilly, so we headed over to Matt’s parent’s house where they had a beautiful little lawn we got to shoot on. Denae is planning a BEAUTIFUL wedding and I can’t wait to capture the lovely memories from it.

Fall is my Favorite: Peepin’ the Fall Foliage in Wisconsin

Peepin’ the fall Foliage in Wisconsin. Ok, y’all. Fall is my favorite. I know it is a lot of people’s favorite. Who WOULDN’t love it!? The crisp air, the flannels and boots… hoodies! Hoodies!!! Pumpkins, the earth set ablaze in one last beautiful hurrah before going to sleep for the next few months. One last party before the winter, that’s what Fall is. It is my favorite time of year for everything. Baking, photography, writing, everything. And I was thinking about a photo shoot I have in a few weeks and I decided to take a look at some photographs I took last year for some inspiration. And of course I wanted to share them with you! Let’s take a look and ALL get excited about the change of the seasons and the turning of the wheel. They aren’t the best shots of all but they remind me of how beautiful it is about to get.

My husband and I like to go on road trips to no where so we hopped in the car one morning, strapped the little Bear into his car seat and pointed the car North. We ended up somewhere in Wisconsin and found some beautifully scenic roads, a few meadows and fields all ripe for the viewing.
